Professional Teeth Whitening in Midtown Toronto

A brighter smile can make a surprisingly big difference in how you feel about your teeth. Eglinton Way Dentistry offers two professional whitening approaches: Philips Zoom in-office whitening for patients who want faster results and professionally supervised DayWhite or NiteWhite take-home treatment for patients who prefer to whiten gradually.

How Does Professional Teeth Whitening Work?

Professional whitening uses peroxide-based whitening ingredients to break down stains within natural tooth enamel.

Whitening can be particularly effective for staining associated with: coffee, tea, red wine, smoking, age-related darkening and everyday food & drink.

Philips Zoom In-Office Whitening

Philips Zoom WhiteSpeed combines professional whitening gel with its light-accelerated in-office system. Philips reports that Zoom WhiteSpeed is clinically proven to whiten teeth by up to eight shades in one visit, with the active whitening portion taking approximately 19-120 minutes for the complete appointment. Individual results vary depending on the original colour of the teeth and the type of staining.

Take-Home Whitening

For patients who prefer to whiten gradually, we also offer professional take-home systems using custom trays. DayWhite is designed for shorter daytime wear, while NiteWhite allows patients to whiten for longer periods, including overnight depending on the product selected.

Take-home whitening generally takes place over a period of days or weeks.

Does Whitening Work on Crowns, Veneers or Fillings?

No. Whitening changes the colour of natural tooth structure, but it does not lighten porcelain crowns, veneers or tooth-coloured fillings. If you have visible restorations, Dr. Elliott can help you plan whitening around them so your final smile remains consistent. If you plan to replace older dental work at the front of your mouth, it’s usually best to whiten first so the new work can be matched to your new shade.

Does Teeth Whitening Last Forever?

Whitening is not permanent. Coffee, tea, red wine, smoking and normal ageing can gradually darken teeth again. Some patients periodically use take-home whitening for touch-ups after their initial treatment.

In-Office or Take-Home Whitening?

Choose in-office whitening if your priority is achieving a significant change quickly. Choose take-home whitening if you prefer to brighten your teeth more gradually and on your own schedule. Some patients use both approaches.

Who shouldn’t whiten?

We usually recommend waiting if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have untreated cavities or gum disease, or have very sensitive teeth. We will check your teeth before you start.

Other Frequently Asked Questions

Does teeth whitening cause sensitivity?

Some people have temporary sensitivity during or after whitening. It usually settles within a day or two. We can adjust the treatment or recommend a desensitizing toothpaste.

How long do whitening results last?

Results often last one to three years. Coffee, tea, red wine and smoking bring stains back faster, and occasional touch-ups help maintain your shade.

Is professional whitening better than store-bought kits?

Professional whitening uses stronger gel under supervision, with trays or protection made for your mouth. That usually gives more even results and less gum irritation than one-size-fits-all strips.

Does whitening damage enamel?

Used as directed, professional whitening is not known to damage enamel. Overusing whitening products can increase sensitivity.
